What to do in a Dental Emergency

View MoreLost Tooth

If a tooth has fallen out, whether from trauma or other accident, it is important to bring the tooth to us as soon as possible as it is often possible to reimplant the lost tooth back into place.

When handling the tooth, avoid making contact with the root, handling it only by the crown.

If at all possible, try to place the tooth back into the area it has fallen out from. To keep in place, make sure to gently apply pressure from the opposite teeth and take care not to swallow the loose tooth.

If you cannot place the tooth back into place, fill a small container with whole milk, place the tooth into the container and bring this with you to your emergency appointment.

View MoreChipped or Broken Tooth

If you have chipped or broken part of your tooth, contact us as soon as possible as the remaining tooth could be susceptible to further damage or infection if left untreated.

The edge of your tooth that is remaining could be sharp so it may be a good idea to place some sugarless chewing gum over the crown to avoid cutting your gums or lips.

View MoreMajor Toothache

A toothache could be present for any number of reasons including decay, fracture or infection.

The pain may also be related to the surrounding gum. Check in the mirror at home for any signs of bleeding as this may be a sign of gum disease.

If the pain you are experiencing does not fade or is unbearable, contact us immediately for an appointment.
